Transitioning Your Closet From Summer To Fall

It’s that time of the year again. The mornings are getting cooler and the nights are ending chilly which means it’s time to start breaking out your fall clothes. But don’t put away the summer clothes just yet. We’re going to show you how you can mix and match your summer and fall clothes while still being on-trend!

Start Layering Up

Without a doubt, the weather plays a big factor in your fall wardrobe. The start of the season can be a little unpredictable, so it’s always good to be prepared for whatever temperature comes your way. If you plan to be out past sunset, playing around with layers can save you from being too cold or too hot throughout the day.  One of our favorite transitional looks this season allows us to keep all our summer maxi dresses in the closet. Layer it with a tee shirt or turtleneck and throw on a cozy jacket and VOILÀ! You’ve turned a summer dress into your (now) favorite fall dress.

Accessorize

How you accessorize your outfit can make any outfit stand out. Fall 2019 is all about bucket hats, cozy scarves, visible socks, colorful tights, fitted gloves– all things that keep you extra warm. If you live in a warmer city, like Los Angeles, throw on a bucket hat with a dress (or really any summer outfit) and a coat. If you’re in a city where you’d be nuts to walk outside bare-legged, add some colorful tights and a cozy jacket to complete your look.

Boots All Fall Long

You know it’s fall when boots are the only shoes you want to wear. Instantly change your look from summer to fall by adding boots to your outfit. The top trending boots you will be seeing everywhere this season are tall slouchy boots, white boots, animal print booties, and combat boots. Oh yeah, combat boots are back and they’re going strong this fall!

Incorporate Fall Colors

Pantone Color Institute published the top 12 fall colors for the fashion industry and this year’s color palette is full of bold colors that stand strong alone and work well mixed and matched. When you think of "fall colors" you often think darker tones and autumn leaf colors (which is still valid), however, the runways were bold and colorful! So don't be afraid to incorporate some of your bright summer pieces into your outfits this season. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute said “Colors for Autumn/Winter 2019-2020 range from easy and sophisticated to strikingly different and unique”. Basically, have fun with your fall palette this year.

Chunky Sweater Over Everything

You know that cozy sweater you’ve been waiting all summer to wear (and snuggle up in)? Well, you’re going to love it even more. This fall is all about pairing your coziest sweater with your brightest and comfiest bottoms – whether it's high waisted shorts, palazzo pants or a maxi skirt. This combination is definitely worth trying. You get the best of both worlds – staying comfy while still looking chic.

Transitioning your closet from summer to fall can be tricky, but fashion truly has no rules. Take risks or play it safe, do whatever makes you feel most confident. At the end of the day, confidence is the best outfit. Wear it and rock it.
